Did you know that as a Clarion resident you can receive up to £1,000 in the form of a grant to help with the costs of starting a new job or setting up a business? The two types of grants we offer are the Business Startup Grant and the Retrain Grant.
Jess’s Story
Jess was working in a completely different industry before she decided to go to college to complete a Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. While at college, she heard about the Retrain Grant, which gave her the appropriate support, guidance and funds to set up her own business.
A dedicated employment support officer also helped Jess through every step of the journey, providing assistance with the complicated aspects of setting up a business, like business and financial forecasting.
Jess originally planned to get a job in a dog salon after completing college, but after setting up ‘Fresh Pets Mobile Grooming’, she can now work around her daughter’s school schedule and take time off work when she needs to.

Retrain Grant
You can receive up to £1,000 to start or continue a course that develops your professional skills if you are unemployed, facing unemployment, or if you would like to change career. The money can be put towards a range of things, such as course fees, course materials or equipment, just so long as it is linked to your new career. The amount of money you receive for the grant will vary depending on the level of your course.

Business Startup Grant
If you dream of setting up your own business, you can receive up to £1,000 to help with some of the costs associated with your business plan. This could include materials, equipment, marketing and testing.
You must submit a business plan with your application. During the process, you will have access to a dedicated business advisor, who can help with financial forecasting and perfecting your business plan.
