Chester’s story begins when he was working on a zero-hour contract as a bank administrator at Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust.
Originally from Ghana with an engineering background, he had dreams to leave the world of banking behind and work in the world of IT.
Discovering Clarion Futures
It was at a community event organised by Clarion Futures through Netcom Training in 2023 that Chester took his first step towards a new career.
Designed to highlight the diverse opportunities within the National Health Service (NHS), Chester attended sessions where he gained invaluable insights to help him successfully navigate the extensive NHS application and interview process.
Securing a role within the NHS
With newfound confidence, Chester applied for the Community Coordinator role at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust and was successfully offered the position, providing him with much-needed job security.
Continued support and job progression
Things did not stop there. Chester maintained regular communication with the team, who would send job alerts that better aligned with his passion for IT.
An IT Technician role within Daisy Technology, Clarion Housing Group's contracted IT partner, became available. However, due to the security requirements – specifically, that applicants must have resided in the UK for the past five years - Clarion Futures were only able to submit a formal request for Chester to undertake a work experience placement instead.
Finding success
After completing his work experience with a site manager at Daisy Technology, Chester went on to secure a role within the Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Trust as an IMS and Order Communications Specialist Team Leader, a position in the IT industry and therefore achieving his dream.

Looking ahead
Chester’s permanent full-time role has enabled him the time to gain valuable IT work experience with one of the country's most reputable IT providers – an opportunity that helped him to move into his dream industry.
The NHS-related skills he developed through Clarion Futures will continue to serve him well as he pursues future career progression.
