We're delighted to announce this year's William Sutton Prize scholarship recipients.
Delivered in partnership with the London Neighbourhood Scholarship Trust and financial education specialists Blackbullion, and with one scholarship sponsored by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), this initiative empowers talented young people to pursue degrees in architecture and sustainability.
We awarded scholarships to six outstanding students to study at leading institutions, including the University of Oxford, The Bartlett at UCL, and Ravensbourne University London. Alongside financial support, our scholars will benefit from mentoring, work placements, and tailored employability guidance.
These scholarships champion emerging talent in vital fields, nurturing future leaders who are passionate about building inclusive, climate-resilient communities. We're proud to support these inspiring young people as they work towards their dreams, life goals, and ambitions.
Aisha Suleiman - pursuing Architecture at UCL (The Bartlett)
“Architecture, to me, is more than aesthetics; it’s about creating environments where people feel safe, inspired, and connected. Coming from a household focused on education and financial stability, I developed a passion for exploring how creativity can address social and environmental challenges.
Learning about deprived housing areas and unsafe conditions shaped my ambition to design homes that foster dignity and equity. The LNS scholarship will provide the resources and mentorship I need to reach my potential as an architecture student. I aspire to create spaces, like my local youth centre, a vital support system that embodies belonging, resilience, and community.”

Isata Kamara, pursuing Architecture at UCL (The Bartlett)
"The LNS scholarship would transform my student experience, easing financial pressures so I can fully immerse myself in my architecture degree. Mentorship would provide valuable insight into the profession, while work experience would connect me with industry experts and broaden my understanding of different practices.
Funding for materials and study trips would expand my skills and expose me to global perspectives, enriching my emerging practice. Kennington Park is a meaningful third space for me. Once a childhood playground, it is now where I reflect, write poetry, and connect with nature. It fosters wellbeing, activity, and community for all.”

Malak Hafez - pursuing Architecture at Ravensbourne University
“The LNS scholarship would transform my student experience by easing financial pressures and allowing me to focus on both personal and academic growth. It would give me the resources and opportunities to succeed, while also serving as a confidence boost by recognising my hard work and potential.
A space in my neighbourhood that greatly benefits the community is my local park. This large green area connects pieces of local history along the canal while offering a safe, welcoming environment for families. I find it peaceful and inspiring, particularly the way animals and people share the space in harmony.”

Meroan Chernet - pursuing Human, Social and Political Science at the University of Cambridge
“My commitment to sustainability is grounded in people. At Cambridge, I will study Human, Social, and Political Sciences, focusing on how environmental challenges reflect social and economic inequalities.
From UK families in poorly insulated homes to communities in the Global South displaced by climate disasters, the injustice is clear. During an internship at PA Consulting, I worked on housing and sustainability for Kent County Council, proposing policies to reduce energy poverty.
As Head of Communications at HomoEconomicus, I’ve led work on clean energy and housing retrofits. With Clarion’s support, I would co-create a youth-led project with social housing residents, exploring sustainability in daily life.”

Olivia Nwaha-Walmsley - pursuing Environmental Science at Nottingham Trent University
“I believe this funding will give me time to deepen my understanding of environmental issues, and apply that knowledge to engage people in sustainability, inspiring meaningful change. Much of my life has been spent contributing to local initiatives, from delivering presentations and events to introducing affordable, sustainable solutions in my Sixth Form canteen.
In my current role as Programming Assistant at Wicken Fen Nature Reserve, I help deliver activities and outreach across the fenland area. With this support, I can explore new ideas and use what I learn to make nature more accessible to all.”

Tamar Okunhon - pursuing Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford
“My passion for the environment and sustainability began after I joined my school’s eco club, subsequently spending my Monday afternoons engaging in activities like litterpicking, planting and organising events centered around environmental education.
Furthering my passion, whilst being part of the Garsdale Steering Group, I worked on a specific site in the Yorkshire Dales, introducing new wildlife there and regenerating once-lost land.
My most recent endeavour is being a youth trustee of the charity Action for Conservation (AFC). This organisation works with young people to help encourage environmental sustainability - it's a cause I’m proud to be a part of.”
