Home inspections

Surveyors’ inspections are property inspections carried out by independent Chartered Surveyors. They determine certain information about our properties. They are not inspections to highlight repair issues. They also do not affect tenancies, rents or service charges in any way.

We borrow money secured against our properties. This happens with most housing associations. The inspections tell our lenders that we are following the rules of our loan agreements. We borrow at a sensible level to build more homes. Our aim is to help as many people into affordable housing as possible.

Surveyors’ inspections are typically required every year. We own over 100,000 properties and surveyors tend to inspect different regions each year. You can expect to go several years between receiving surveyors’ inspection letters. It's also that you may never receive one at all.

No. If you are out when a surveyor calls, the surveyor will not leave a card or call back. They will visit another property instead. Please do not make any special arrangements around a surveyor’s timetable.

Inspections will only last a few minutes and the surveyor will not disturb a customer’s home in any way. The process may include taking photographs.

Yes, the Surveyor will carry a copy of the same letter you have received. The inspector will also carry company identification.
