What is Shared Ownership?

Shared Ownership is a home buying scheme where you buy a share of between 25% and 75% of the property’s value and pay a subsidised rent on the remaining share. Over time, you can buy more of the property until you own 100%*, this is called ‘Staircasing’

You will need a small deposit at the outset – generally a minimum of 5% of your share, subject to conditions – and you will need to raise a mortgage on the rest of the sum required.

Additionally, to be eligible for Shared Ownership you will need to meet specific criteria set by the Local Authority; this can vary for each scheme.

Contact us to find out about the homes we offer or come and see us during the London Home Show on the 22nd September.

What are the benefits of Shared Ownership?

  • It can be a quicker option to get onto the property ladder than if you wanted to buy a home outright.
  • You can buy more shares in your property as time goes on and you save more on the reduced rent.
  • It may be cheaper than renting depending on scheme and location.
  • You can sell your Shared Ownership property at any time. Additionally you will benefit from any increase in the property's value.
