Share your Windrush stories for our special 75th anniversary project

Clarion

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush, which carried more than 800 passengers from the Caribbean to UK shores.

After stepping off the ship, these pioneers went on to help rebuild post-war Britain and significantly contribute to and shape the diverse modern society we know today, with its vibrant blend of traditions and cultures.

We want you to help us celebrate and raise awareness of this iconic slice of British history by taking part in our special heritage project.

If you or a family member were part of the Windrush generation, we are calling for you to share your stories, memories or photographs with us.

These contributions will be collated into a booklet that will explore and showcase the real-life experiences and rich legacy of this courageous generation.

Contributions can be as broad as you like. Here are some examples to inspire you:

  • Stories, memories or poems - personal or those handed down from a family member, friend or neighbour
  • Photographs, for example family photos from your collection, pictures capturing the fashion at the time, or of furniture or objects.
  • Recipes, perhaps with a tale behind them.

The booklet will launch in October during Black History Month and be available in your local community.

All contributors will automatically receive a copy of the booklet as a thank you.
