Wayne’s journey: Turning passion into purpose

Clarion

Wayne, a Clarion resident, first connected with Clarion Futures through our Digital Team, receiving a device loan to help him get online.

From there, he accessed support from our Jobs and Training team, completing a Youth Worker qualification and gaining valuable skills for his future.

Empowering others through digital skills

In 2023, Wayne began working with the Mole Valley Employment Hub after finding out about the support available at the Advice Café, based in Harvest Church, Dorking.

Inspired to give back, Wayne trained to become a Digital Champion, helping Clarion residents and the wider community with everything from setting up email accounts to applying for school uniforms and accessing online learning platforms.

His work has played a key role in tackling digital isolation locally.

Spotting a need and taking action

During his regular career pathway planning meetings with the Jobs and Training team, Wayne identified a gap in his community: young people struggling with mental health challenges and families unable to afford school trips.

With support from Clarion Futures’ BSU and Communities teams, Wayne set up a new local charity to provide free trips for children during the school holidays.

This exciting new venture is a testament to Wayne’s dedication to improving lives beyond digital support - and we’re proud to continue supporting him as he builds his organisation and applies for funding.
