Clarion statement on fire safety case

Clarion

At Clarion, your safety is our highest priority, and as the UK’s largest social landlord, we take our responsibility to keep residents safe in their homes extremely seriously.

You may have seen coverage from Sky News about an incident involving the falsification of fire safety information by a former member of staff. This related to Person-Centred Fire Risk Assessments, which are invitations that ask residents to tell us if they may need additional support in the event of a fire. It is important to note we seek to gather information about residents’ individual support needs in a variety of ways directly, including when people first move into their Clarion home.

We know reports like this can be worrying, and we want to reassure you that this was an isolated case which does not reflect Clarion’s values or the high standards we expect from all our colleagues.

As soon as clear evidence came to light, we acted immediately, launching a full investigation and audit of fire safety signage across all affected buildings. The investigation confirmed this was a localised and isolated issue within one neighbourhood team and took appropriate action against the individual involved.

We understand that hearing about issues like this can cause concern. Please know that we have strong governance, fire safety management and whistleblowing procedures in place so that any concerns are raised and dealt with swiftly, fairly and transparently.

If you have any worries about fire safety in your home, or if you’d simply like to talk to someone for reassurance, please get in touch with our Contact Centre who are here to listen and support you.

We also continue to encourage any residents who may have additional needs or vulnerabilities in the event of a fire to contact us. This allows us to carry out a Person-Centred Fire Risk Assessment, which is a best-practice approach that helps us understand the support you might need in the unlikely event of a fire.

We want to thank all residents for their continued trust and understanding.

We will always take action where standards fall short, and we remain fully committed to keeping every home safe and secure.
