We are aware residents are being contacted by fraudsters, claiming to be Clarion staff or contractors.
Here we share ways to protect yourself.
Unexpected visits
We always book repairs and gas visits with you in advance.
- All our staff carry photo ID - always ask to see it.
- Don’t let anyone into your home without first checking their identity.
- If you’re unsure, ask for their name and call us to check - they won’t mind waiting.
- Close the door if you feel pressured or uncomfortable.
Call us on 0300 500 8000 if you have any concerns.
WhatsApp messaging
Clarion does not use WhatsApp to contact residents.
- Ignore any WhatsApp messages that claim to be from Clarion staff or contractors.
QR codes
Scammers can use QR codes to trick you into visiting websites, downloading content or providing information.
- Check the QR code is not an overlaid sticker. Pay particular attention to QR codes in public places.
- Read the link address carefully and make sure it matches with the place you would expect the QR code to direct you before proceeding.
- If you’re unsure, do not click through.
- Do not click on QR codes that come to you via post or email if you are not certain of their origin.
- Be especially cautious if it appears to be from a bank or related to payments. If in doubt, call the company via a known phone number to check.
Phone calls
Scam phone calls are when people pretend to be calling from organisations, such as:
- Banks: claiming there is a problem with your card or account
- HMRC: claiming there is an issue with your tax refund or unpaid bill
- Computer repair or phone provider: claiming there is a fault with your computer, internet, or phone line.
- Welfare calls: pretending to be Clarion staff and asking for personal identity information.
What to do
- Don’t reveal personal details and don’t feel rushed into making decisions
- Hang up or close the door if you feel worried or pressured
- If you’re unsure, find the company’s number yourself and call them directly.
Making payments safely
The safest way to pay us with a bank card is through the Clarion Housing website.
If you need to pay over the phone, our staff will ask you to key in your card details. You should never read the card details over the phone to us.
