Abigail's journey to an apprenticeship

Before joining the Functional Skills programme, Abigail had been out of mainstream education for some time due to anxiety and mental health challenges. Despite the barriers she faced, she was determined to continue learning and achieve qualifications that would support her future goals.
The programme's flexibility allowed Abigail to study from home, giving her a safe and comfortable environment to learn. Through hard work and determination, she completed her English and Maths Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications.
Overcoming challenges
When Abigail found some Maths topics difficult, she received one-to-one support from a tutor. Although nervous about online sessions, she gradually gained confidence and had a positive working relationship with her tutor.
She also completed the English Speaking and Listening assessment, which involved taking part in a recorded group discussion online.
Taking the next step
With her qualifications achieved, Abigail built her confidence further through work experience before applying for a remote Business Administration Apprenticeship. Her commitment and new skills helped her secure a role with service and maintenance company, Robert Heath, marking an exciting step towards a career she is passionate about.
Abigail said: "The Functional Skills programme gave me the confidence to keep learning and believe in what I could achieve."
