New start for care leavers

Clarion

Young care leavers are being given a helping hand thanks to Break, a charity working to change young lives and provide a brighter future.

Through the new ‘Staying Close, Staying Connected’ project, Break provides support to care leavers in East Anglia to set up a home, and manage their first tenancy with us. Care leavers are expected to be independent when they turn 18, yet many find the experience Challenging, and struggle without the support of a family network.

Our contractor EQUANS, part of the ENGIE Group, have partnered with Break, as setting up home can be daunting and costly. The first project of this new partnership saw EQUANS decorate a property near Norwich and transform the garden with plants and patio furniture. The young residents are already making plans for growing vegetables and enjoying their new space.

Thank you to EQUANS for their generous support to make a welcoming home for these young people. We hope to do more to support Break and help young residents with their first tenancies in the region.

“Working with Break is a fantastic opportunity for us to support young people. It’s good to be part of this project and help make that first step a little easier for these young care leavers.”

Clare, Neighbourhood Investment Officer.
