Fire safety event in Orpington

Clarion

Residents of a LiveSmart scheme in Orpington were joined by the London Fire Brigade as part of the Bromley Community Impact Day (CID) programme.

Community Impact Days are multi agency initiatives to deal with local issues; they are supported by the Council and funded by the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC). While much of the focus is on tackling antisocial behaviour (ASB) and crime, the Impact Days also cover Community Welfare, such as supporting residents with spotting scams or reducing accidental fire risk.

As part of the Community Impact Day in April, we invited the Fire Brigade to a LiveSmart scheme in Orpington.

The local Fire Station Commander joined the regular coffee morning to talk residents through fire safety leaflets, answer any questions they had, and give them useful fire safety tips. We also provided safety items for residents, as needed.

Team leader, Gloria, said that residents really enjoyed the talk, and found the session much more informative than just being given a leaflet to read.

Due to the success of this event, we are planning to carry these out at all our LiveSmart schemes across the borough.
