Tangmere Primary Academy's forest school area was a much-loved space, but only usable in good weather. This limited outdoor learning, with staff and pupils wishing for more.
Clarion Futures Communities recognised the need, funding a £3,000 shelter kit. The school’s site manager, Mr. Shawcross, built the shelter gradually, completing it over the summer holidays.
Celebrating the transformation
The shelter was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Jane Cox, our Regional Director of Housing (South), joined by Mr. Shawcross, teachers, children, parents, and Clarion colleagues Jane Haskins, Rhys Pask, and Beverly Clear.
A new lease of life
The project turned a seasonal space into a vibrant, inclusive hub for education and community connection, bringing lasting benefits to Tangmere pupils and residents.
Now, over 210 children each year can enjoy outdoor learning in a safe, weatherproof space. The school also hopes to host intergenerational forest school sessions, offering local residents who feel lonely or isolated a chance to connect, learn new skills, and build friendships.
