Celebrating Bow’s green spaces together
Across Bow East and West, Clarion Housing has been growing a network of community gardens - and residents have been making the most of them in all kinds of creative ways.
One of these was the Nature Photography Competition, which invited local people to capture the beauty of Bow’s green spaces. From colourful flowers and homegrown vegetables to buzzing bees and visiting birds, the photos showed just how much nature is thriving locally.
A community idea that took root
The competition was led by local resident Ann, who first shared the idea of community gardens back in 2022. Since then, that idea has grown into something special, helping to transform shared spaces into places where people can grow, learn and connect.
Exhibition highlights
Twelve shortlisted photos were displayed at a friendly exhibition on 27 November, attended by over 20 residents.
The judging panel – made up of Ann Carolan, professional photographer Raman Feiz, and Lilly Matthews, a Clarion Futures apprentice – chose the winners alongside a public vote.
Four prizes were awarded, including £50 for our overall winner, Goldie, as well as a special prize for the public’s favourite photo.

More than just photos
This project wasn’t only about photography. It brought neighbours together, encouraged people to enjoy the outdoors, and reminded us all how important it is to look after local wildlife.
Bow is greener, people feel more connected, and there’s a real sense of pride in what the community has achieved.
