A group of adults sit around tables in a workshop setting, collaborating on an activity. One woman leans over to write on a large sheet of paper while others discuss and contribute. A “Board Member Academy” badge appears in the top-right corner.

Not quite ready for the boardroom? Start with our resident Board Member Academy

Clarion

Ever wondered how housing decisions are really made? Our new resident Board Member Academy gives you the chance to go behind the scenes and build the skills to get involved.

Starting this May, you’ll learn how things really work, from strategy and finance to services in your communities.

Whether you’ve thought about applying for Board or Committee roles before, or just want to understand the bigger picture, our Board Member Academy is where it begins.

A different way to get involved

We know Board roles can feel like a big step.

Maybe you’ve:

  • thought about applying but weren’t sure how it works
  • applied before and weren’t successful
  • felt you didn’t have the right experience (yet).

That’s exactly why the Academy exists. It’s here to help you build the knowledge, confidence and skills to take that next step.

In just six months, you will:

  • understand how decisions are made
  • see how organisations like Clarion work
  • build confidence and leadership skills
  • explore finance, risk and customer experience
  • learn through real-life scenarios

This isn’t just about learning, it’s about what comes next. You’ll be guaranteed an interview when future opportunities come up.

What’s involved:

  • 6 month programme
  • 1 - 2 sessions per month (around 2 hours long)
  • mostly virtual, with some in-person sessions at Greater London House
  • flexible timings, including evenings where possible
  • 10 - 20 places only
  • celebrate your achievement at a graduation event with our Chief Executive Officer, Clare Miller and the Chair of the HA Board.

Be part of something new. This is the first time we’ve offered this opportunity and places are limited.

If you’ve ever been curious, this is your chance to start.

Who can apply

No formal qualifications needed. What matters most is that you:

  • are willing to learn and commit to the full six-month course
  • care about improving services
  • can look beyond your own experience to represent wider communities.

The Academy is open to all residents. We especially encourage residents aged 18+ who want to develop new skills. Please note, the Academy is not currently open to leaseholders.
