E-bike and E-scooter Fire Risk

Clarion

As e-bikes and e-scooters are becoming more popular, there is an increased risk of fires occurring when charging the batteries.

When an e-bike or e-scooter’s battery and chargers fail, fires can spread rapidly. However, by charging and storing your e-bikes and e-scooters safely, you can minimise this risk.

Storing your E-bike or E-scooter

You should never store e-bikes or e-scooters in any communal areas or the escape routes within your own property.

For your safety, extra smoke alarms should be considered in areas where e-bikes or e-scooters are being stored and charged.

Charging you E-bike or E-scooter

Do not leave the batteries constantly on charge and unplug your charger once it has finished charging.

You should also avoid charging the battery when you are sleeping or it is unattended.

Batteries can get very warm during their use. Please allow time for them to cool down before re-charging, otherwise they could be more likely to catch on fire.

When charging the batteries, make sure to charge them on hard flat surfaces, where heat can disappear.

Batteries can also malfunction when damaged. To avoid this risk, ensure they are not knocked around while in use or while being carried as spares.

If you need a replacement charger, make sure to buy an official replacement or purchase it from a reputable seller. It is important to use the correct charger for your product.
