Abbey Hulton residents are enjoying a brand-new wellbeing space at the Betty Rushton Community Gardens, thanks to support from Clarion Futures, the Rothesay Foundation and Travis Perkins Managed Services.
Named after a resident who set up the Sutton Trust Community Group which now runs the project, the Betty Rushton Community Gardens on Hadleigh Road are much-loved by those living in the area. They provide a peaceful environment where people can connect with nature, take part in gardening activities, meet new people and learn new skills.
Run by a team of volunteers, the gardens offer a peaceful, friendly environment where local people can connect, grow food, and take part in fun and helpful activities.
Activities that make a difference
Open Monday to Saturday, 10am–2pm, the wellbeing space has already welcomed nearly 850 visits since opening in February!
Residents can enjoy a weekly community lunch every Wednesday (12:30–2:30pm) made using fresh garden produce, plus:
- coffee mornings on Mondays
- knit and natter groups
- digital skills sessions
- and much more!
These free sessions help people build friendships, learn new skills, and boost wellbeing.
Recognised and celebrated
The project recently welcomed Gareth Snell MP and the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent (pictured), who praised the work of local volunteers and the positive impact the gardens are having on the community.
