A laptop that changed a learning journey

Life had become a daily balancing act for one nursing student, who was managing demanding coursework alongside caring for her family, all without a computer of her own. With no device at home, she relied heavily on library computers, rushing to complete assignments and feeling constantly pressured by time limits and travel. The strain left her feeling stressed, limited and unsure of her digital abilities.

Everything changed when she received a Lenovo laptop through the scheme. For the first time, she could study at home, at her own pace. Researching academic journals, attaching documents and even inserting graphs became simple everyday tasks rather than barriers. Alongside the device, she attended digital hub sessions delivered by the Digital Support team at her local library, learning how to stay safe online and build the digital confidence she needed for university. Learning, confidence and family life transformed

With her new skills and device, she shared that she feels “more confident using technology” and can now recognise credible websites to strengthen her research. The convenience has saved her both time and money by removing the need for travel and printing. The positive impact has extended beyond her studies too – her 15‑year‑old son now uses the laptop to complete his homework, giving him better opportunities for success. The support she received didn’t just help her complete coursework, it strengthened her university application and opened new doors for her future. As she proudly explained, “I even mentioned during my interview that I gained my digital skills through these sessions.”

For her and her family, digital access has become a pathway to confidence, achievement and long‑term opportunity.

“I didn’t realize how much it would change my everyday life,”
